Why Natural Fabrics Are The Best Choice For Yoga

Here at Milochie we believe that natural is the way forward, for both our bodies and our environment, which is why we only create yoga products using a high percentage of natural materials. Choosing the right clothing for your yoga practice is not always that easy; do we want loose fitted clothing, super stretchy, synthetic or natural? Whilst synthetic fibres may be the more suitable choice for high-impact cardiovascular exercises like running and aerobics, for yoga and other stretching exercises natural fibres such as cotton offer advantages over cheaper synthetics fibres, such as polyester, which we will cover in this post.

So here are just a few reasons why we love cotton:

Absorbent and Breathable

This incredible natural material is highly absorbent and transmits any moisture away from your skin, like a towel, preventing moisture from building up between your skin and clothing. This minimises fungal breeding as the enhanced air circulation keeps you dry and cool. However, at the same time cotton is also great for providing insulation as it simultaneously keeps the cold and wet out.

Hypoallergenic

Cotton is often a recommended material to wear for those suffering from skin allergies, which is why it is used for medical purposes too such as bandages and gauzes. Since synthetic fibres tend to trap moisture they can causes skin allergies, rashes and body odours.

Eco-Friendly

Since cotton is a  natural material it is therefore biodegradable and a renewable resource. The processing of cotton leaves less than 10% unusable and the advantages of organic cotton are even greater as no pesticides are used to grow it resulting in less chemicals in the environment making it even more eco-friendly.

Comfort

Cotton is soft, stretchy and pilling won't be a problem!  Pills are little balls of tangled fibres you often find on synthetic clothing after washes or too much rubbing. The tangled balls become permanent on synthetic fibres, whereas cotton sheds any during the wash. Cotton is also not clingy and you won't get any static shocks as it can't hold an electric charge...hurray for hair!
